THE COALITION REACTS TO THE IMPOSITION OF SANCTIONS ON JUDGE

The US Department of State has imposed personal sanctions on entry into the country on members of an influential group of judges due to their involvement in significant corruption. The sanctions are imposed on current and former judges: Mikheil Chinchaladze, Levan Murusidze, Valerian Tsertsvadze, and Irakli Shengelia.

Assessment of the Events Occurring at the Protest Rallies of March 7-8 

Human Rights Center is actively monitoring the protest rallies against the draft law on Foreign Influence Agents supported by the parliamentary majority of Georgian Dream.  The monitoring aims at detecting the violations taking place during the assemblies and demonstrations and identifying the dangerous trends.

Police Used Illegal and Disproportionate Force against the Peaceful Civil Protest

On March 7-8, 2023, the police used illegal and disproportionate force against peaceful civil protesters. Mass arrests were made, and according to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 66 individuals were administratively detained. In some cases, physical harm was inflicted, and instances of inhuman/degrading treatment have also been identified. One such incident occurred against politician Zurab Japaridze.
