Statement by Human Rights Center regarding the Detention of Ex-President Saakashvili and the Criminal Prosecution against him
HRC is responding to the arrest of the third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, which the Ex-President refers to as politically motivated holding a hunger strike in protest. According to the defense counsels and personal physician of Saakashvili, the physical condition of the ex-president is getting worse day by day.

There are signs of politically motivated justice against Mikheil Saakashvili
We, the signatory organizations, respond to the arrest of the third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili. Four criminal cases have been filed against the third president; he has been convicted for two of these and still under prosecution for the other two. At present, Mikheil Saakashvili calls his arrest politically motivated and is on a hunger strike in protest. According to his doctor, the prisoner’s health condition is deteriorating.

Refusal of EU Assistance is an Open Declaration of Georgia's Deviation from the Euro-Atlantic Course
The signatory organizations express concern over the statement of the Prime Minister of Georgia that the government is "refraining" from receiving 75 million Euros of EU assistance. This is an unequivocal refusal to implement reforms in the judiciary and an open declaration of Georgia's deviation from the Euro-Atlantic course.
